Chapel VII - The Flagellation of Christ
The chapel was ordered by the Litta brothers, nobles from Milan, as the family coat of arms reminds us.
At the center of the eight statues by Martino Retti (1608), who was assigned to create statues "representing images as naturally as possible" one can see the suffering Christ attacked by villains with grotesque shapes. In the background, three large scenes painted by Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli, also known as "Il Morazzone" (1609): Jesus before Caiaphas, Jesus and Barabbas before the crowd, Jesus is undressed and dragged to flagellation.
