Chapel XIV - The Assumption of Mary
The last chapel, completed in 1610, is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary.
The incredulous apostles are gathered around the empty tomb while the Virgin Mary, accompanied by angels partly sculpted and partly painted, is rising to the sky where the fresco of Jesus is painted. The group of sculptures is the work of Francesco Silva, perhaps assisted by his son Agostino. Only the Assumption was attributed to Martino Retti or Giovanni Maria Palanchino.
The frescoes, started in 1698 by Stefano Maria Legnani, known as "Il Legnanino", were completed by Pietro Gilardi.
Past the Fountain of Moses, one can enter the village and continue on until the last station, located on the high altar of the Sanctuary.
