Chapel V - Religious leaders challenge Jesus at the temple
The chapel, financed by the city of Varese (1607-1623), is dedicated to the last of the Joyful Mysteries.
Francesco Silva is the artist who created the statues, painted by Carlo Francesco Nuvolone along with the frescoes. On the right wall there is the signature and the date 1650. The decoration of the chapel is focused on the theme of the Word of God: above the windows, Moses receives the tablets of the law, Ezra reads the book of the Lord to the people and, in counter-facade, the religious leaders challenge Jesus at the temple. The decoration is completed with Sibyls, Prophets and Evangelists.
In the Second Arch, dedicated to Saint Charles, there is a monumental statue of the blessing Borromeo, by Carlo Antonio Buono (about 1651), which leads to the Sorrowful Mysteries.
