Chapel VIII - The Crowning with Thorns
The eight statues were created by Francesco Silva, who affixed his signature and the date of completion, not certain (1625 or 1626), on the stool where Jesus sits.
The name of Giovanni Serodine from Ticino was recently proposed as the artist who created the statues of the bearded man yielding a baton and the halberdier standing behind Jesus. In addition, the artist had likely worked alongside Silva to create the group of statues, later rearranged by Agostino Silva in 1701.
The frescoes were created by the Recchi brothers (1648) who were also involved in the works at the Sacred Mount of Ossuccio. The signature and the date are shown on a plaque on the right wall.
