Chapel XVII - The Death of St. Francis
The group of sculptures, by Dionigi Bussola and his apprentices, depicts St. Francis close to death, who lies naked on the ground, surrounded by friars. On the right, at his side, is Roman the noblewoman Giacoma de Settesoli, forewarned by an angel of the saint's imminent death.
The frescoes were made by the Nuvolone brothers, who created the figures, while the painted architectures were made by the artist Giovani Battista Grandi from Varese.
