Chapel 18 - The Raising of Lazarus
It houses the scene of the miracle of the Resurrection of Lazarus and was also included in the Book of Mysteries by Galeazzo Alessi (1565-1572). The chapel and the group of statues were completed in 1583, presumably together with the paintings, and were financed with the help of the noble Pomponio Bossi from Milan. The sculptures were attributed to Bartolomeo Badarello from Campertogno. On the request of Bishop Bascapè (1584) two more sculptures were added (on the left) created in the last decade of the century by Michele Prestinari, a sculptor from Como who also worked in the Cathedral of Milan. The frescoes have recently been attributed in part to the local artist Gian Giacomo Testa and to a Mannerist artist close to the mature period of Aurelio Luini.
The original figure of Jesus was replaced in 1905, due to the poor state of preservation, with a new statue of neoclassical style by sculptor Carlo Vanelli.
