Chapel 35 - Jesus is condemned to death
Located on the first floor of the Pilate Palace, it depicts the scene of the final judgment of Jesus before the Roman governor when he reads the death sentence.
The walls of the chapel depict Pilate's court room, open to the outside, bounded at the top by a balcony beyond which, on the dome, it represents the Ascension of Jesus that dominates the sentencing scene.
The chapel was built in the first decade of the seventeenth century, decorated by Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli, known as Morazzone, and completed in 1616.
The statues by Giovanni d'Enrico were also shaped during the same years. In 1621 the stained-glass windows of the chapel were ordered to Geronimo Rocca.
