Chapel 39 - The Deposition from the Cross
It depicts the scene in which Jesus is removed from the cross by John from Arimathea with Nicodemus, the apostle John and the pious women.
In 1603 Bishop Bascapè planned the construction of this chapel in which Giovanni d’Enrico, with the collaboration of Giacomo Ferro and his team, would have shaped the statues between 1637 and 1640, while the painted decoration was the work of Melchiorre Gherardini, also known as "il Ceranino".
