Chapel XIX - The miracles on the tomb of the saint
The chapel is mentioned for the first time by Bishop Visconti (1698), who recorded the presence of nineteen statues - a crowd of faithful and ill people, and the guards - placed around the tomb of Francis. The sculptures were made by Giuseppe Rusnati (1682-1684), who also worked at the Sacred Mounts of Varese and Domodossola. The Milanese artist Antonio Busca, who painted the frescoes, had already worked at the Sacred Mount of Varese to decorate the chapels with the sculptures by Dionigi Bussola.
