Chapel 8 - Jesus Presentation at the Temple
It hosts the scene of the presentation of Jesus at the temple, forty days after his birth, according to Jewish tradition, and his circumcision.
The splayed portal and the elliptical marble staircase of the atrium reflect in detail the doors that in Bethlehem in the Holy Land, on both sides of the choir, lead from the upper church to the lower church that houses the cave. The decoration of the chapel depicts the architectural space of a temple with fake marble panels, in front of which there are four painted male and four female characters who attend the scene. Both the terracotta statues and the frescoes were the work of Gaudenzio Ferrari, made by 1513 and they were mentioned by a guide to the Sacred Mount in March 1514. The round wooden table is an addition dating back to 1847, made by Barolo di Varallo's sculpture school supervised by Giovanni Longhetti.
