Chapel 29 - Jesus led before the Court of Pilate for the second time
It depicts the scene of Jesus sent back by Herod to Pilate for final judgment.
The architectural part of the chapel was completed in the summer of 1628, when Bishop Volpi visited the Sacred Mount, but there were no decorations or statues. Its completion still tool half a century. The group of terracotta sculptures is the work of the team of Giovanni d'Enrico and was completed in 1641. In 1658 the Valsesia-based artist Pierfrancesco Gianoli was ordered to paint the frescoes. In 1670, the Grandi brothers painted the architecture on the walls. The scenes with the figures were created only between 1675 and 1679 by Gianoli who signed and dated (1679) his self-portrait frescoed on the left wall, removed from the wall support and now preserved at the Picture-Gallery Museum of Varallo.
