The Calvary complex (chapels 37- 38-39)

The building was begun in the early sixteenth century to house the chapel of the Crucifixion (chapel 38) incorporating part of the rock sticking out from the top of the hill. In 1514, it had a simpler layout than the one designed and built by Gaudenzio Ferrari between 1515 and 1520. In the first half of the seventeenth century, the chapels of the Jesus Affixed to the Cross and the one of the Deposition were placed next to the chapels of the Crucifixion. In the mid-nineteenth century the complex had an arcade to the west with a neoclassical pediment. A century later, the covered loggia with the upper gallery was built on the back.
