The Birth of the Virgin Mary
The chapel, dedicated to the Conception of Mary, was financed by the communities of Bioglio, Pettinengo, Piatto, Vallanzengo, Valle San Nicolao and Camandona starting from 1659. Approximately in 1660, sculptor Francesco Sala, from Como together with artist Carlo Antonio Serra from Tollegno were actively working on it. Pietro Giuseppe Auregio reorganized the scene, starting from 1711, he created the statues and the Glory. The scene is divided into three groups of figures: in the background St. Anne is in bed assisted by some women. In the foreground, the midwife with a female figure and two angels, is showing the newborn Mary to her father, Joachim; on the right, other women are drying cloths near the lit fireplace. The frescoes are the work of Giovanni Galliari (1718).
