The wedding at Cana

The chapel was built around 1650 by the community of Lessona, which was already dedicated to viticulture. The chapel shows twenty-nine figures participating to a seventeenth century wedding banquet. Sitting at the table there is Jesus and Mary. While an elderly guest turns towards the cupbearer and watches the first miracle of Jesus: the transformation of water into wine, as it is narrated in the Gospel of John. The scene also includes original musical instruments of the time, played by musicians on the stage.  In 1724, the painter Auregio repainted the statues.
