The approval of the Franciscan rule by pope Innocent III

The chapel was built and decorated between 1619 and 1629.  The sculptures are by the Valsesian brothers Giovanni and Melchiorre d'Enrico, who also worked at the Sacro Monte of Varallo.  After 1661, Dionigi Bussola added some statues in the foreground. The frescoes are by Antonio Maria Crespi, also known as Bustino, who had a style very similar to Morazzone. Starting from the left,  they depict: Pope Innocent III, who denies the approval of the Rule of Francis; the Pope dreaming the falling down Lateran palace, which is supported by Francis; Innocent III approving the Rule; the friars being given food by an angel, while returning from Rome.
