St. Clare takes the habit
Built between 1634 and 1639, it was decorated approximately in 1648. The frescoes, of an unknown painter, from right, depict Saint Francis cutting Saint Clare's hair. Francis leading the nuns to San Damiano. Saint Agnes joining her sister Clare, who becomes as heavy as a marble statue, when her relatives try to bring her home. Her uncle raises his fist to hit her and his arm stiffens, but the prayer of Agnes heals him. Finally, Saint Francis accompanies Clare to the monastery of the Benedictines. The upper part shows Martha congratulating Mary, for having chosen a life of contemplation, and some scenes from the Old Testament. After 1661, Dionigi Bussola added a few baroque statues, to the original group, shaped by Giovanni d’Enrico and his workshop.
