The chapel, commissioned by the Gilardoni family from Volesio, was probably built in the late 17th century. The seven statues are the work of Agostino Silva and his workshop. The executioner, who is tying Christ to the column, has a prominent goiter. This was a common feature of some characters of the Sacri Monti of Varallo and Varese. The frescoes, by an unknown artist, outline a background with architectures and landscapes.
