Adam and Eve or the Original Sin

It was built by 1567, on a project by the architect Galeazzo Alessi. The chapel is dedicated to the Original Sin, cause and origin of the incarnation of Jesus and the story of Salvation.

A first group of statues was already present in 1578, then modified several times. In 1593, Bishop Carlo Bascapè asked the sculptor Michele Prestinari to add new figures of animals and the restoration of the figures of Adam and Eve. However, the bishop was not satisfied, so he ordered the sculptor Jean de Wespin, also known as Tabacchetti, to sculpt a third couple, still considered unsatisfactory because of the "lascivious" look. Thus, the bishop ordered to hide the nudity "through some skilled artifice".

By 1586, Vincenzo and Gerolamo Mangone, also known as Moietta, worked on the stucco decorations. The paintings were made by Giovanni Battista della Rovere, also known as Fiammenghino. When the chapel was renovated, more statues of animals were added by Giuseppe Antonini. Finally, the walls were entirely repainted by Francesco Burlazzi in 1886.
