The Flight into Egypt
The scene represents the flight into Egypt, with the angel leading the fugitives.
The chapel was built around 1578, following the design in the Book of Mysteries by Galeazzo Alessi (1565-1572).
Originally it was meant to stage the Massacre of the Innocents, but it was moved to a larger chapel, as required by the Duke Carlo Emanuele I of Savoy. In 1578, there was already a group of statues, by an unknown artist, inspired by the Gaudenzian tradition.
The original frescoes by Giovanni Battista della Rovere, also known as Fiammenghino, were completely renovated by Francesco Burlazzi in 1886.
