The Samaritan Woman at the Well

The scene shows the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman.

The chapel was built between 1572 and 1578. The statues were created by an unknown artist from Milan, and were completed by 1583.

The painted decoration has been recently attributed to the local artist Giovanni Battista Scolari. He was influenced by the late Gaudenzian school, as well as by the late Mannerist models of Andrea Luini, which he could admire at the construction site of the Sacro Monte.
