The Transfiguration
The scene stages the Transfiguration of Jesus. He appears beaming with light to the apostles who, at the foot of the Mountain, carry out miraculous actions.
The foundations of the building were already in place in 1578.
The statues are attributed to Pietro Francesco Petera from Varallo and Giovanni Soldo from Camasco, an assistant to Dionigi Bussola. They were completed in about 1670.
The frescoes are by the Montaldo brothers, also known as the Danedi (1675). These Lombard artists also worked on the decoration of the dome of the Basilica of the Sacro Monte.
