The Resurrection of Lazarus
The scene shows the miracle of the Resurrection of Lazarus. It was included in the Book of Mysteries by Galeazzo Alessi (1565-1572).
The chapel and the group of statues were completed in 1583, presumably with the paintings. And were financed with the help of the noble Pomponio Bossi from Milan.
The sculptures are by Bartolomeo Badarello from Campertogno. Bishop Bascapè asked to add two more sculptures (on the left) by Michele Prestinari, a sculptor from Como, who also worked at the Cathedral of Milan.
The frescoes have recently been attributed in part to the local artist Gian Giacomo Testa, and to a Mannerist artist, close to the late style of Aurelio Luini.
The original figure of Jesus was replaced in 1905, due to the poor state of preservation, with a new statue of neoclassical style by the sculptor Carlo Vanelli.
