Jesus enters Jerusalem
The scene depicts Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on a donkey, in the midst of the crowd that celebrates him, by laying down pieces of cloth and throwing olive branches and palm tree branches, to cheer his arrival. This is one of the episodes narrating the public life of Jesus, taken from the Book of Mysteries by the architect Galeazzo Alessi (1565-1572).
The group of statues are by the sculptor Bartolomeo Badarello from Campertogno. The chapel was built and decorated by 1583. The frescoes are by Giovanni Battista della Rovere, also known as "il Fiammenghino". In 1594, bishop Carlo Bascapè asked to add more sculptures by Michele Prestinari. Finally, in 1722, the sculptor Giuseppe Arrigoni from Milan renovated two statues in the foreground. Finally, Pietro Borsetti painted two apostles on the fake door on the right, while Giovanni Avondo added other figures on the door on the left in 1817.
