Chapel 24

Jesus at the Court of Anna

The scene represents Jesus bound and led to judgment before the high priest Anna. It is the last chapel built at the Sacro Monte by 1740 with the donations of the Valsesian people who lived in Turin.
The statues are by Carlo Antonio Tantardini from Valsassina, who shaped them between 1726 and 1740.

Giovanni Battista Bernero, court sculptor of the Savoys, created a new figure of the pontiff Anna to replace the previous one damaged. The frescoes were made by Sigismondo Betti, professor at the Florentine Academy, who painted also the statues by 1764.
