Chapel 28

Jesus before the Court of Herod

The scene represents Jesus led to judgment before King Herod.
It was built between 1619 and 1627, thanks to the donations by the people of Valsesia.

The two brothers Giovanni and Antonio d'Enrico made and painted the statues. The frescoes originally might have had lighter and brighter colours, such as white, gray and light blue.

They are the latest work by Tanzio for the Sacro Monte (1628-1629), probably completed after the decoration of the chapel of the Guardian Angel in the basilica of San Gaudenzio in Novara.
