Step into the crowd

This scene was created in the early decades of the 17th century by the sculptor Giovanni d’Enrico and the famous painter Pier Francesco Mazzucchelli, known as Il Morazzone.

It develops over two levels. On the balcony the figure of Pilate looks out from the Praetorian palace in Jerusalem. He shows Jusus to the crowd saying : ‘Ecce homo’, that is ‘Here is the man you have condemned’.

On the ground, in a courtyard, there is a multitude of people: some are shouting, others despairing, others are arguing, some point to Jesus, others just glance. There are dramatic expressions, screams, tears, but also scenes of everyday life, like the little dog peeing right in the front of the scene. The viewer is overwhelmed by the commotion that is unleashing in front of the Praetorium, amidst quarrels, screams or the indifference of the crowd. Immerse yourself in the scene, with the 360 degree view.
