The first stone of the building was laid on 25 March 1605, the day when the Annunciation of Mary is celebrated. The statues of the Virgin Mary, placed in front of a kneeler, and of the Archangel Gabriel, donated by the Community of Orta, are the work of Cristoforo Prestinari (1610), who left his signature and the date on the base of the statue of the archangel. The scene represents a Lombard house in the early 17th century. There is a carved and gilded bed, a pair of bellows for the fireplace, a cupboard with majolica, as well as other objects of daily use.
