The Nativity

The construction of the chapel started in 1605Martino Retti from Ticino created the sculptures of Saint John the Baptist and Zechariah, which are in the niches of the pronaos. The statues of the internal scenes were recently attributed to Cristoforo's brother, Marco Antonio Prestinari (about 1615), who had already been working at the Sacro Monte on a group of sculptures now kept in the oratory of the Immaculate Conception.
The frescoes are by Carlo Francesco Nuvolone (1658) and depict the Adoration of the Magi, the Announcement to the Shepherds, the Massacre of the Innocents, the Preparation for the Flight into Egypt and the Warning of the Angel to Joseph. The quadratura are the work of the painter Francesco Villa from Varese. In 1983, Renato Guttuso painted the mural representing The Flight into Egypt
