The Crowning with thorns

The eight statues were created by Francesco Silva, who put his signature and the date 1625 or 1626, on the stool where Jesus is sitting. Giovanni Serodine from Ticino might be the artist who created the statues of the bearded man yielding a stick, and the halberdier standing behind Jesus. In fact, the artist had likely worked alongside Silva, to create the group of statues, later rearranged by Agostino Silva in 1701. The frescoes were created by the Recchi brothers (1648), who were also involved in the works at the Sacro Monte of Ossuccio. The signature and the date are shown on a plaque on the right wall.
