The climb to Calvary

The chapel was built in 1623 and represents the scene of the Climb to Calvary, with Jesus falling under the weight of the cross, while two villains are pushing him. In front of him, there is Veronica on her knees, and on the left, The Virgin Mary and the Pious Women are approaching the scene. The statues by Francesco Silva have a strong emotional impact. The frescoes by Giovanni Paolo Recchi (1654) depict the walls of the Holy City, elegant female figures, men with exotic turbans, soldiers and angels.
On the external wall of the chapel, you can see what is left of an Ecce Homo, painted in 1686, by Stefano Maria Legnani, also known as "il Legnanino".
