The Ascension
The chapel was built around 1624 and was financed by the Giovan Pietro and Giovan Antonio Carcano brothers, noblemen from Milan, whose coat of arms stands on the tympanum. Francesco Silva shaped the crowded scene with whole figures and thirty high reliefs depicting cherubs and Jesus ascending to the sky, surrounded by golden rays carved in the wood. The Virgin Mary and the Apostles are watching in a variety of positions and expressions. The date of completion of the group of statues 1632 is engraved on the shoulder of the Madonna. The decorations created by the Lampugnani brothers in 1633 were completed with massive decorations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Lampugnani brothers also worked at the imposing fresco of the Adoration of the Shepherds, in the sanctuary of Santa Maria del Monte.
