The Assumption of Mary

The last chapel, completed in 1610, is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The incredulous apostles are gathered around the empty tomb, while the Virgin Mary, accompanied by angels partly sculpted and partly painted, is ascending to the sky, where the fresco of Jesus is painted. The group of sculptures is the work of Francesco Silva, perhaps assisted by his son Agostino. Only Mary is attributed to Martino Retti or Giovanni Maria Palanchino. The frescoes, started in 1698 by Stefano Maria Legnani, known as "Il Legnanino", were completed by Pietro Gilardi.

Past the Fountain of Moses, you can enter the hamlet of Santa Maria del Monte and reach the last station, which is on the main altar of the Sanctuary.
