Built after 1624, this chapel was financed by the Milanese noble brothers Giovan Pietro and Giovan Antonio Carcano. Their coat of arms stands out in the attic of the main façade of the building. Francesco Silva moulded the crowded scene, consisting of figures in the round and thirty high reliefs. It represents cherubs and, in the centre, Christ as he ascends to heaven, surrounded by golden rays carved into the wood. Mary and the Apostles witness the event in a great variety of gestures and expressions. On Mary's shoulder is engraved the date when the sculptural group was completed: 1632.
The wall paintings by the Lampugnani brothers (1633), active also in the sanctuary of Santa Maria del Monte, are mainly gone, except for massive 19th and 20th century additions.
