Imagine climbing a path overlooking the blue of Lago di Como. Here lies the Sacro Monte of Ossuccio, a place where nature and art coexist. Every step is a discovery; ancient chapels that tell stories, panoramas that suddenly open up, silences that invite a pause.
The route, which ascends through olive and chestnut trees, is paced by fourteen chapels built between the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside each one are statues and frescoes that narrate episodes from the life of the Madonna; they almost seem like a large illustrated book made of stone and colours, which pilgrims could “read” as they walked. For children, each chapel is like a small theatre set; life-size figures, antique clothing, gestures and glances that speak for themselves. Between one stage and the next, you only need to turn around to discover the lake, the mountains and the villages scattered along the shores of the lake.
The climb leads to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso (Our Lady of Help), white and luminous, which seems to watch over the lake and valleys from above. Here, the walk becomes a shared experience: a journey through history and art, an encounter with nature, a game of curiosity that makes the path suitable for everyone, big and small
