The Martyrdom of St. Eusebius

The chapel, financed by the community of Vercelli, is the first stop along the route from Forneglio to the top of the hill where the sanctuary stands. The statues, of great realism, are the work of Juan de Wespin, also known as Tabacchetti. The painted decoration, completed in the first decade of the 17th century, is attributed to Giorgio Alberini. It depicts in the background the church of St. Andrew, symbol of the city of Vercelli. The lower floor was originally an arcade designed for resting. At the base of the building there is still the spring that, according to tradition, St. Eusebius created during his stop in Crea in the fourth century. The presence of water was a reference to the grace of Christ.
