The encounter of Mary and Elizabeth

The chapel is part of the first project of the Prior Costantino Massino. Built in 1598, it was financed by the marquis Fabio Gonzaga, governor of Monferrato.
The original group of sculptures by Tabacchetti was severely damaged by the disastrous raids of the Napoleonic army and a long period of abandonment.  It was replaced by statues of Giuseppe Latini in approximately 1860. The scene shows the encounter between Mary and Elizabeth, at the presence of Joseph and Zechariah. Two episodes of the Old Testament complete the tale. On the left wall, the Visit of the Queen of Sheba to King Solomon, on the right wall, the encounter between Abigail and King David. The decoration is completed with a painting of the Eternal Father surrounded by musician angels painted on the central wall.
