I, Giulio Gemelli, as a representative of the community of the Riviera d’Orta, commit myself to discuss with the most reverend Franciscan fathers of the great city of Milan. I have just left the building of the Community of Orta. Together with the most noble families of the Riviera, the Fortis, the Biancos, the Maffiolis, the Tartagnas and the De Fortes, we have decided to found a new convent on the hill of San Nicolao. We wish the Franciscan Friars might settle down there. Indeed, a few days ago the Community decided to build several chapels on that hill with a wonderful view of the lake, to narrate the mysteries of the holy St. Francis’ life. Climbing up the mountain, now you can find a very holy church with a miraculous statue of the Virgin that has protected the Riviera for a long time. In the nearby wood, one day a Santo Monte run by the holy Franciscan friars will be built.
