I designed every piece in this holy place. I am managing the work of twenty-four sculptors and bricklayers. Without me they wouldn't know what to do.
In the distant year of the Lord 1590 the community of the Riviera d’Orta sent me a letter, asking for my humble opinion as an architect and engineer. With the help of the local noblemen, they wanted to build, on a certain mountain, many buildings, of various and different shapes, to represent the events of St. Francis’ life. Several small temples, distant from each other a stone's throw, with many trees, which make the place pleasant and healthy.
I also designed this circular temple with a lovely shape: modern yet ancient. It is similar to San Pietro in Montorio by Bramante in Rome. This is it, I am just a humble friar who could never refuse such a worthy undertaking. Otherwise I would have been ungrateful to divine goodness.
