Those talented men of the Riviera, the Monti brothers, who already painted chapel 1 with great ability, were not appreciated by the highly respected Bascapè. We were about to commission them with the painting of the new chapel. Yet the bishop wrote to the Fabbrica yesterday that he preferred to get the painters Moncalvo or the ‘Fiammenghini’.
Who knows if this Moncalvo, an excellent painter much appreciated by Bascapè, will be willing to work in the Riviera. As for the Fiammenghini, I admired their works at the Sacro Monte di Varallo!
