I remember the day I visited the Santo Monte di Varallo: what an immense joy for the eyes and for the spirit. But I have also always kept my little Riviera d’Orta in my heart. So in 1588, I decided to convince the inhabitants of the Riviera to build a Monte like in Varallo. It would narrate with sculptures and paintings the life of our most holy Francis. And I also asked the devout people of Orta to welcome the most reverend Capuchin friars in the church of San Nicolao. I donated 50 silver ducatoni from my legacy, to build the last and finest chapel. And I daily contribute to this enterprise. Who knows if one day they will call the chapel by my name. For now, there are only the foundations. If God gives me enough time, I will perhaps have the good fortune to see it completed. If, on the other hand, I leave my soul to our Redentor before, I am hoping that my heirs will be able to finish it. It will be the last chapel of the Sacro Monte, but the first in beauty!
