Traders and emigrants

On the facade of chapel VI you can see a heraldic coat of arms: it belongs to the wealthy Brentano family, who paid for the construction and decoration of the building. The Brentanos had a fairly common story in 17th-century Lombardy: they emigrated, got rich, but did not forget their origins. Some members of the Brentano family moved to Germany. At first they traded citrus fruits and fabrics, then, after having consolidated their commercial activities, remained permanently in Germany. Some ex-votos preserved in the sanctuary belong to prominent members of this family. A proof  of the close ties of the Brentano family with their country of origin.
