Chapel VIII shows evidence of its history, from its foundation to today. It was set up by the sculptor Agostino Silva, thanks to the contribution of the Gilardoni family from Volesio, a village not far from Ossuccio. The chapel, exposed to the action of atmospheric agents (rain, snow, wind), was already in need of conservation work at the end of the 19th century. In 1935 it was restored by ‘Marmori e Figlio & Botta’, who placed their signature under the clearly visible one of the sculptor Agostino Silva, who had completed his work in 1666. Restoration is a fundamental part of the history of the Sacri Monti. For centuries, it has been everyone's responsibility to look after and preserve this precious but extremely fragile heritage.
